The Double Whistle
Let me start by introducing myself. I'm a Canadian high school referee operating under the FIBA ruleset, with slight modifications made by the regional basketball governing body. I have refereed approximately 785 games in about eight seasons. I'm starting this blog because I love basketball and I like talking about it. Since I've started refereeing this sport, my appreciation for it grew considerably. It forces you to think differently about something that - in my case - you played, coached, watched and loved basically your whole life.
To be quite honest, I'm still not 100% positive on what I intend to do with this blog. I just know I have an urge to talk about basketball all the time and I have very few people in my life - except fellow referees - with whom I can talk in very specific details who will actually share my enthusiasm. I have a few ideas for some general topics that often pop up when you're in this line of work. Here are a few of them.

I have a few ideas for some general topics that often pop up when you're in this line of work. Here are a few of them.
- Analysis of situations that actually happened to me in a match.
- General refereeing considerations (e.g. a double whistle)
- Obscure and/or fun rules.
- Misunderstood rules.
- Personal (professional?) opinion on officiating in the NBA or NCAA (keeping in mind that the rules might not be exactly the same).
- Others.
I'll see how it goes and I'll adapt accordingly. I'm excited to do this, even if basketball season is over over here and we have only five weeks or so of professional basketball left before many months of nothingness. However, since I've been mulling this idea over in my head for a while now, I have many topics in my back pocket to, hopefully, fill this blog during the off-season.
